Where to from here for Delightful?

I'm not interested in growing the user base. Delightful is just a fun thing I made for my team at the time, and I still use it and keep it updated for anyone who wants to use it.

Promoting Delightful is a bit of extra fun

I've posted some goofy promo images and funny videos on the socials. As of writing this, the browser extension has only had a maximum of 50 users, which it hit last month - August 2026.

The small user base doesn't bother me one bit. I built it for my team at the time, and I still use it and keep it updated now. I made it publicly available and open source, firstly so that anyone could use it if they want, and secondly because it was a good opportunity to publish my first open source piece of work.

If you don't like fun things, or you're too scared that someone might see a bit of your crazy come out, or maybe security is tight and you can't install browser extensions without permission... in any case you do what you do and that's ok... Me and the other 49 users of Delightful will have fun on your behalf.

Growing the user base

No thanks. Not interested.

The browser extension, and the Obsidian plugin are available to install and use for free, the code for both is open source and available on GitHub.

If you've had a browser extension, you'll know about the dodgy emails you get for promoting your extension for rapidly growing your user base (with fake users). I've even had a legitimate request to join a startup incubator in Silicon Valley (with a $20k investment in the shape of incubator services) to grow the extension and pitch to investors, which felt a lot like I received a phone call from Erlich Bachman - the startup incubator owner from the Silicon Valley TV show (definitely in my top five shows of all time).

I've never said yes to any of those things.

My motivation

I just want a fun thing to surprise me now and then, without any financial or other constraints. At the same time I'm happy to put (quite a lot of) extra effort in to make it available to other people, no strings attached, no cost, no tracking*, no recording of anything, just a simple thing to share the joy.

* The only analytics I can see for the extension is the standard report that all extensions get from the Chrome Web Store - number of installs and uninstalls, number of current users, and which country or something like that? And for Obsidian it's just the number of downloads - which everyone can see.

I only look at the number of users/downloads about two or three times per year to feed my curiosity. I hope it doesn't get too popular, because that would translate to more work, and I only have time for the biggest of fires, out of far too many fires than I care to be responsible for.
